WElCOME
For as long as I can remember, I have been a teacher – first to my cousins, then as a nanny, camp counselor, tutor, and classroom educator. I have worked with learners from birth through college. I see writing for children as an extension of my passion for teaching. I hope my books will broaden perspectives, build empathy, and help children feel seen, valued, and empowered.
Overall, my mission is to help children develop a lifelong love for reading and learning.
Hello! Here is my story...
My name is Alexia Andoni. I am a teacher, author, and illustration student. I like to travel, canoe, garden, and otherwise spend time in nature. I also enjoy reading, spending time with my family and friends, and making things with my hands.
As a young child, I was always conjuring up stories and sharing them at the dinner table. Back then, I used storytelling as a way to compete with my older brothers for some air time. I’d prolong those excruciating stories as long as I could to squeeze out every last ounce of attention from my family. Once in elementary school, my teachers helped encourage and develop my writing and storytelling through the Young Author’s program. Each year, we’d write stories, then revise, type, illustrate, and bind them into small books to share with the school. I never won the contest, but the process ignited my love for writing. I relocated my family’s typewriter to my room and would spend hours typing up plotless stories about lost dogs and school bullies. As a middle schooler, I continued journaling and began writing poetry. Somehow through the years, I drifted away from writing for pleasure, but as I began my career teaching young children, my love for children’s books and the art of storytelling was rekindled.
Now, I am happy to combine my interests. I am a Child Development Specialist and teacher by day (helping other children grow their love for reading and writing) and a picture book author by night. I live with my family in Michigan where I am the co-coordinator of our local SCBWI Shop Talk.
